TL;DR Poplar or Pine.  2x4's, 4x4's, etc for building stuff outside or in the garage.  Just getting started and not ready to drop loads of cash on a real planer.

To start with "cheap" dimensional lumber.  Want to build a workbench - right now I've got some MDF attached to 2x3's sitting on saw horses as a work bench.  Then want to build a lumber storage cart, a shoe rack and then an outdoor kitchen.  Got a great deal on a 36" Blackstone griddle, so want to pair that with my grill and maybe a pizza oven.  Along with a table and chairs to use out there.

At the point in life where I'm tired of grunting for the man so much and want to branch out a bit.  I've built some planter boxes and this potting bench which went well.  Mrs. WAN found me a brand new, still in the box Craftsman table saw for $75 - its not what I would have picked but couldn't pass it up.

Wow. Glad I asked. Big doings at the WAN compound. Ya got the fever!  Hope you update as things proceed.

Aren't there two hand planes?  One for going with the grain and the other for across?  Or something like that.

Guess I'll find out.  Seems when planing you would want to go with the grain or you would make things worse.
Now there is also a Jointer that might be what you are thinking of. That speeds the process up but I'm not looking to produce stuff to sell.  Just want to clean up the crappy wood down at the Lowes.

and yeah, I've gotten stuff from Harbor Freight.  Most has been fine for what I want.  Guess the real test is my trusty random orbital sander that I've had for 20+ years finally died. Replaced it with one from HF - have not used it yet so we'll see how it goes.

I was thinking of the bench plane and the block plane.

Can you do a food review video of that recipe like Jason Callan but better?
here is his thread.

If I make it it'll be very good. That's the review.

Is that what you call an aging lady showing some cleavage?
😁😁😁

Hey, @KSM,

Is it wrong to actually vocalize that I hope that Pope Francis suffers and dies? That fucking commie pinko doesn't even follow his own church's doctrine and has done a lot to support the New World Order where we will own nothing and be happy.
