They would have added more teams if Winnipeg was one of the original six.

You can do old fashion divisional playoffs than with 1vs 4 and 2vs 3 in each division. I think that could work pretty well, Canadian teams will have to travel alot of cross country but if you keep all the American teams playing within the division for the regular season there's not a lot of travel there, especially for the northeast teams.
