Flying to New Jersey in 36 hrs. Nervous as ell, what the hell does a fear of flying inexperienced guy do in a can for five hours?

I'd be more nervous about being in Jersey, myself.
In truth, I sympathise. I hate flying. Headphones are your friend. The takeoff and landing will most likely be the worst parts in terms of jerking motions; if you get motion sickness, be prepared for that, especially if it's a smaller plane. Most likely, you will get drinks and snacks. If those help, make use of it.
