I got a new smart TV and, because it doesn't know my algorithm yet, it just suggests local news uploads on YouTube .

I've often used the phrase "once a user, always a user" and a news feature proved me right...

A place recently closed, it was a cafe with a religiously based name. The article was a person that I worked with 40 years ago. Maybe I should rephrase that, I argued with this guy.

He had recruited me to set up the back line and a band to support country and western gospel artists. The dude was a snake and a wolf in country and western clothing.

After the first in-person meeting, I had doubts. I brought a concert promoter with me to the second meeting just to make sure I wasn't being too rash in my judgment. I remember having my concerns confirmed as we were driving home from the meeting.

So, this place is selling off all of its signage in an auction. They used a local news station to promote this auction by saying that the proceeds would go towards buying a hotel for homeless people.

What is wrong with that picture? What a fucking scam. Sure, if it's the original In-N-Out Burger sign or the first McDonald's sign, maybe. Place they probably won't make enough money to buy the furnishings of a single hotel room. When they fall millions of dollars short of their goal, what do they have out of that? They got a crappy auction that was promoted for free on television so it might increase some of the bids.

Once a scammer, always a scammer.
Eh, nevermind...

We had a Dia de los Muertos themed cafe in SF for a short time.  I might have bot their sign for the right price.  But you're right, not enough to buy a hotel, even if they threw in the candles and other decorations.

Haiti is a floating pile of garbage!

I have just purchased one of those stovetop coffee press units. This will be a first for me, but I've heard very good things. Eager beaver am I!

Sounds like something that Falkie would do.

Cross-Platform promotion... How do you say "opinions of a buff guy" in French. Sure, you're not French Canadian, but it's a little twist that might get you a couple of extra views. You know the French are mostly gay, hahaha!
Eh, nevermind...

Going to watch this tomorrow. Stupidest name for a movie EVER. I'll no doubt regret this.

Was it with something else? I think I remember the name but it had apricot or peach or something not apple.

He mixed quince with prickly pear fruit!  Which was genius (they are quite mild but have a vibrant purple color) but I can't get them around here this time of year.

Costco membership renewal is up. Was 50 when I arrived here in 2022, now it's 65.
As long as they have the chocolate chip cookies, we're cool.

Costco is raking in the cash after the "borrowed card" crackdown.

My kids have no problem still getting in and making purchases.

Around here, gas runs 40¢ to 50¢ cheaper at Costco. Use their credit card and get 4% off too. Plus the additives are better than the big-name brands. (Not that it would help @KSM)

Their 100% maple syrup, liquid coffee creamers and motor oils are almost 50% less than that of other stores.

Plus, their car insurance for executive members is fucking incredible.

Recently I had a TV set fail, but was already out of warranty. Thing is, there's no fucking way a TV set should fail that quickly, that particular model I have has a known problem.

I called Costco corporate and made it known, even gave them the link to the tech article about it. They called me back stating that they've opened a case with the manufacturer and gave me a reference number. Who else is going to do stuff like that? Membership has its benefits.
