I was wandering around the garden section at Kroger when I came across a display of what can best be described as misfit plants. (Perhaps they came from the island that those toys lived on.) There were several varieties of plants and they had been discounted in price, and placed on death row. Meaning that they were no longer being watered, and they looked it. Anyway, there were two red dianthus plants that looked as though they could be revived, if cared for properly, so I purchased one. I took it home and put it in a pot and then noticed that there was still room for another one, so I went beck to the store the next day and bought the other one.
Well, the two of them bounced back and they were in full bloom clear up to autumn's first frost. They didn't freeze though, because I picked the pot up and brought it into the house. After that it was placed outside during daylight hours and brought indoors at night...pretty much all winter long. It was worth the effort because when spring rolled around, the were covered with bright red flowers. The plants are doing just fine now, and they are still flowering.
