Louisiana native, author Ernest Gaines died today at age 86. He has been one of my favorite authors all my grown up life. He was actually born on a plantation not far from the town I was born in. I met him in person at a book signing for his novel “A Lesson Before Dying”. He took the time to talk with each of us hometown folks. An amazing man and great loss to the literary world.

@Jayzelady….  May he rest in peace.  It is always sad to loose a favorite author.  I could have gone to a book signing by Edward Abbey but for some reason or other, I talked myself out of going.  Been kicking myself ever since.

@Jayzelady….  May he rest in peace.  It is always sad to loose a favorite author.  I could have gone to a book signing by Edward Abbey but for some reason or other, I talked myself out of going.  Been kicking myself ever since.

After his death, he was buried as he had requested: in a sleeping bag, without embalming fluid or casket.

Two weeks ago, Robert Freeman, the photographer famous for the Beatles album covers up through Rubber Soul died.

That famous With the Beatles/Meet the Beatles silhouette photo was actually taken in a hallway not a portrait studio like it appears to be.  He obviously pushed the film but still... Mind blown.
