The Nolan Ryan era... Clean and identifiable.  I liked the colors too.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gary Rossington 71.

Last of the original band.

What a mess those guys were.  Live hard, die young.

If you want to know more about Lynyrd, the Allmans, etc. my friend Dr. Mick Fitzgerald has written a book about all of that.  He was a guitar player growing up with all of those guys. Jacksonville and the Roots of Southern Rock

Now the radio news reports open the story on Rossington with the solo on Freebird, which was played by Allen Collins.

Until Collins tried to drive his car through a tree or whatever.

Too soon?

Weren't Don Felder and a slightly younger Tom Petty in that scene as well? If I recall the story correct, Don Felder was giving lessons at the music store and Tom Petty was his student.

I also remember hearing the singer from Atlanta Rhythm Section sing about being friends with all those guys too.

Let's face it, those good old boys all know each other!

Petty was from Gainesville - about 100- miles from Jacksonville.  I’m thinking Felder was, too. A lot of the guys in ARS were in The Classics IV who were from Jacksonville.  Duane and Gregg Allman joined up with The Bitter Ind which had Dickie Betts and Berry Oakley.  They played their first gig as The Allman Brothers Band in the old Jacksonville Beach auditorium.

Allen was in a car crash in 1986 that put him a wheelchair and unable to play guitar.  He died in 1990 from pneumonia which was the result of the paralysis.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Chaim Topol, a leading Israeli actor who charmed generations of theatergoers and movie-watchers with his portrayal of Tevye, the long-suffering and charismatic milkman in “Fiddler on the Roof,” has died in Tel Aviv, Israeli leaders said Thursday. He was 87.

Otis taylor, 80, still holding offensive records for the Kansas City Chiefs. Pretty remarkable when you think about how all of the rule changes are benefiting the offense in the last decade plus.

I just learned that David Lindley died last week. I didn't know this, he played this line guitar on Running on Empty.  He seemed pretty cool, he liked guitars, great ones, unique ones, bad ones.

I remember his El Rayo-X.
