It's been eight something years since I listened to him. Was it known he was ill or was he just really old?

He stopped doing shows earlier in the year and then put out a blurb in July that he would be back soon but never made it back.
Guess he was sick and never recovered.

Too bad, I rather enjoyed his shows back when he was on DMDN.

Agreed. I recall people talking about him replacing AB.

Al Ferrara - baseball player - 84.

Not a big name, but he lived down the street from me.  I don't remember, but my mom told me when I started playing baseball..

Howard Hughes radio host, not a lot of details available. Was he born April 8, 1954 in Liverpool or is this scuttlebutt?

Mark Wayne "Shoestring" Nichols, modern day hobo and story teller, 53

Woke up in the middle of the night (bad cold), heard a lonesome train far off.   I hadn't caught any of Shoestring's videos in a long time.  Came to find out of his passing many months ago.  Shoestring had become something of a legend in the past few years as medical and psychological issues sidelined his wandering exploits, although he would still catch out when he could.  The man had stories after riding the rails for more than thirty years and he had a way of telling them that caught that deep desire to shuck all responsibilities and worries that life throws your way, pack a bag and hop a freighter.  Looks like String caught the westbound.  Check out his videos on YT.  Tales of danger, loneliness, humor, etc. await.  Some beautiful scenery of America to boot!
