Really solid hitter in his day.  Also didn't believe in banks so that bulge in his back pocket was his wallet.

Hearing news that Skin Walker Ranch researcher, Chris O'Brien has died.  He co-hosted The Paracast with Steinberg for a few years before he left in disgust over Steinberg's silly grifting pleas.

The Beeeeg Boy he called himself.  He came back to Atlanta for an Old Timers game and blasted a homer deep into the left field stands.

I liked him as the cook in Forbidden Planet.  Robby the Robot took Earl's last bottle of whisky and reproduced it into a big pile of bottles of the stuff.  "It's smooth!" the cook said, after sampling the whisky.

Hal Lindsey is gone at age 95.  He didn't make it to The Rapture.

Wow.
Did you ever see the film adaptation of The Late Great Planet Earth? Fuckin' traumatized a 9-year-old me! It had been out for several years but they ran it at church. Why my mom thought it was fine for me to sit in the main 'sanctuary' with all the adults to watch it still puzzles me. That said, now I'm glad she did that!

The book scared the shit out of me (all fact-checked, of course).  But it worked out great - when we didn't all die after a few months I ended up with a healthy skepticism for a kid - just because it's written down, or a well-known person says it doesn't make it so.

But we didn't know that back then.
It was almost fun being scared.  :o

Killing time at an airport many years ago, I got into a conversation with an older gent about the books we were each reading.  Mine was some novel, his was "Late, Great Planet Earth."  He launched into a monologue about the book and its author, ending with "....and he was really good in 'Barney Miller'."  Took me a while to figure out he was confusing Hal Linden with Hal Lindsey.
