Funny, his name recently came up because somebody was talking about the greatness of Carol Kaye and she was the bass player on the  M.I. TV show theme session. His name was actually mentioned as the composer... It was during an explanation about how she often would write the bass line or suggest a change to it (Barbra Streisand's producer apparently really benefited from multiple suggestions from Carol). The exceptions were Brian Wilson (who almost exclusively wrote all of her bass lines) and this was mentioned.

A fun fact was also brought up that rhythm was Morse code for the letters M I. Fucking genius!

By the way, CK usually replies to my emails within two days at the latest. She hasn't. I overthink stuff, she is going through a move. I have to keep telling myself that.

Good riddance.

I was semi acquainted with a singer who up and left everything here in San Diego to go sing with him. Musicians with his band actually got paid pretty well for musicians because they all did multiple jobs within his organization. Mary Ann Peluso, if I remember this correctly, was with him for a short time before all of the crap hit the fan with him. I remember hearing stories of her struggles because she lost her income, but was still expected to work to bring money in for "Him." Now, I must Google her.

A number of those guys were sleezeballs.  The two slimiest were Oral Roberts and Ernest Angley.  Roberts told his flock the Lord would "call me home" if his ministry's financial giving goals were not met.  Made the Almighty sound as if He was running a protection racket.

Angley was an Ohio institution, his syndicated programming began in the late 60s, targeted at low power, independent UHF TV stations of the day.  He seemed to specialize in healing the deaf.  He'd stick his index fingers into his mouth to get them wet, then insert and twist them into the ears of the individual seeking a miraculous cure.  He certainly had some gifted shills.

He also had the seemingly obligatory sex scandals (gay and straight) and was found guilty of unfair labor practices for coercing members of his flock to work without pay at his Heavenly Buffet restaurant.  A group of us used to talk about getting really messed up and going to one of his services/tapings.  Never made it.

Jim WhittingTON was on trial in Raleigh charged with bilking an infirm old woman out of her life savings.  As he was walking out of the courtroom one day, he slithered over to a very hot WRAL reporterette. I stuck a Mic between them and picked him up saying, "Hey, baby.  After I beat this, let's run down to the Bahamas for some fun."
He didn't beat it.
