In reflection, I also ask of BG's unwritten code that nobody was ever supposed to ever make real friends to meet away from the site. Almost a forced limit acquaintance isolation.

When the site closed nobody knew how to connect, it was like a village that was bombed and people were looking for twitter reports!! Can you believe it?
To be fair, how many phone numbers do you have from Ellgab?  IB says that she has talked to a number of Bellgab posters (I tend to believe her.)  Not knowing who others are is generally a part of posting that you have to accept.

If Bart pulled the plug tonight, I would be exactly where I was when MV pulled the plug.  As to meeting others- I almost did when it was Bellgab- but there was a missed (Whistler) connection (you know who you are.)  ;)  I think Paladin said he may be flying into Banff and I would happily meet him as well.  It is not that MV forced others not to interact.  That is the nature of a forum (and the nature of the internet.)

***You may want to keep the above in mind when Sean shoots down your stopping by his recording studio, Jedimiller...

So why is this guy still here?

Excellant idea Ms Art.  Maybe bart will set up a poll so we can  vote members into the cornfield.

Of course I'd never vote anyone there.

Love ALL  (and no that doesn't just mean people I agree with)

So why is this guy still here @Bart Ell?

Because he isn't going thread to thread shitting things up and leaving a diarrhea trail on his way.

It's pretty simple, if one poster isn't your cup of tea you can add them to your ignore list

Quote
Profile -> Forum Profile -> Modify Profile -> Buddies/Ignore List

You will never see a post from them again.

If someone makes it their mission to shit up every thread then they go to the zoo.
I can't put people on my ignore list so I put them in my zoo.
He had a chance to wipe his diarrhea ass but he chose to be a 4chan martyr.

Thanks for the response.  I will agree with what you are saying.  I did not consider that it ever got to the point where it was "just" a shit slinging contest.  I will also concede that I have a higher tolerance of shit stained walls than most, and my judgement may have been skewed by memories of what BG was in the past rather than what it became.

Who knows?  If you ever read about the human memory and how extraordinarily inaccurate it is you will know that I can not judge what Bellgab was actually like at any point in it's existence... I do seem to recall that I enjoyed it (and my proof is that I was there regular for years reading, posting and interacting.)

By that standard- I must enjoy it here (and I do...)  :)

I found BellGab right after Art left Coast after Ghost to Ghost 2010. I was looking for news about what happened and found BG. I was hooked. Lurked from late 2010 on regularly. There were a lot of really smart people on there, a lot of really funny people on there. Some shitheads too, but there are shitheads everywhere. I really enjoyed BG for years. I felt like part of the gang even though I didn't join.

I noticed an influx of new posters after Art left MitD that kind of got the ball of ugliness rolling. Then some of the longtime posters started to leave and even more new ones came on that just wanted to troll. I like a good troll, it can be funny, but some of it was pretty nasty. I got bored with the constant trolling, just got old, and the racist/homophobic stuff was way over the top. But BG before that was a good place, lot of talented people with interesting things to say. I think the big increase in shit slinging toward the end left a bad taste in a lot of peoples' mouths and that's why they (me included) see EllGab as respite from that.

I enjoy reading your posts here, and I think there's a danger in over-generalization of BG to include all posters there as being shit slingers. Yes, it got bad toward the end, but for the most part it was an interesting, entertaining place before it got overrun with trolls. BG was a staple of my daily routine. I was actually disappointed to see how it deteriorated.

Apologies to you if it seemed like I was lumping you and others at BG in with the late-arriving shit slinging crowd, that was not my intention. I'm due for a flogging anyway ;)

To me, a safe space does NOT mean always agreeing and being sweet. It allows for all the challenges and differing points of view anyone might have. For me, the line gets drawn at comments which are intended to hurt, humiliate, shame, or smack someone down in a mean way, without furthering the subject of the discussion. In debates, it's an ad hominem attack, and often not allowed no matter how heated a debate might get.

There are some whose comments here I like less than others', and I'm sure some like mine less, too. But all that means to me is I don't have to respond if I don't like it, it's a free space here and we all should be able to say what we want. To me offensive or personally hurtful comments do nothing to further a discussion.

I actually am enjoying this discussion a lot! And I also am sure we'll get back the the missing HW drama shortly!  ;D

Aquarius, I agree with you wholeheartedly.  Just because we can hurt with our words, doesn't mean we should.  If this was a place of insults and meanness, I think a lot of us wouldn't be here.  To be able to read the comments here is relaxing and decompressing to me, as for the most part civility reigns.  God knows "real life" is hard enough; this forum provides entertainment, both thought- and hilarity-provoking.

BTW-always enjoy your posts.   :)

Sorry your not feeling the love but I have to disagree, Heather is NOT the legacy. What Art accomplished and left behind is his legacy!!! She was just a available person in the room when he quit. She did ok after a while but coming to work is an essential part of the gig!

My point also! I was there.

Sean. How much to record the heather song in ur studio? Im avail friday

I wouldn't do it.  I was picky who I worked with when I was still active (after that slam poetry/rap/fashion girl, I realized I don't have much patience anymore).  Plus my skills aren't sharp, I'm not efficient.

I highly recommend Craigslist. There are few guys. Check the Community/Musicians section.

People on Craigslist might actually want compensation. The dude already tried the gofundme scam to raise $10k for gas money to get to Area 51.
