In 1982 I was getting out of the Air Force. I needed advice in dressing up in the corporate world especially for interviews to find a job in software development. Back then it wasn’t a bunch of millennials in torn jeans and sandals. Someone told me to read a book called “Dress for success”.
The only thing I remember from that book was never wear brown. It had been awhile since I wore my brown leisure suit anyways so I gave it to goodwill. In my 33 years working around NASA I never owned brown dress clothes and probably only saw one or two people in a brown suit.
Someone in the Air Force must have read that book as well. We used to have uniforms called “1505s” which were tan or light brown but they fazed them out in the 70’s. It was my favorite uniform because you could wear shorts in the summer if you didn’t mind knee socks. But we could only wear black shoes.
